Port Congestion Surcharge – Sydney

Further to our Wednesday’s notice regarding the congestion at Sydney port, we have received notices from another shipping line introducing the same charge with minimal notice. So far, the two shipping lines and their charges are as follows:

MSC:

For all import/export cargo arriving or leaving Sydney on 14th September and onward, there will be a port congestion surcharge as below:

20’ = 300 USD

40’ = 600 USD

For Import/export cargo from/to USA, this charge will apply from cargo possession on 8th October onward.

CMA/ANL:

CMA/ANL followed MSC and have announced an Emergency Port Congestion Surcharge for all cargo from/to Sydney effective 17th September 2020. Their charge is as follows:

20’ = 285 USD

40’ = 570 USD

Their charge on US trade lanes will commence from 10th of October as US FMC requires a minimum of 30 days notice period.

LCL’s Shipped on these shipping lines:

If LCL cargo is shipped under these shipping lines, the charge will have to be passed on at minimum or w/m basis. This is expected to be around USD 13.5 minimum or per w/m

Observing the current trend, we expect other shipping lines to introduce their congestion surcharges in the upcoming days. We will have no choice but to pass on these extra costs from the above carriers and any others which introduce their own surcharges in upcoming days.

We will keep you updated with any further developments in this regard.
