MUA Industrial Action at Hutchison Ports and Patrick Terminals

We have received notices from Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) regarding Maritime Union of Australia’s (MUA) Industrial action at Hutchison Ports and Patrick Terminals in Sydney and Brisbane.
The details of the actions are given as below:
Hutchison Ports – Sydney:
- Yard shifts (night shift – 10 pm to 6 am) on Tuesday 15th June 2021 to Friday 18th June 2021 will not be in operation.
- 24 hours of work stoppage staring from 6 am Saturday 19th June 2021 and finishing at Sunday 20th June 2021.
- 24 hours of work stoppage starting from 6 am Tuesday 22nd June 2021 and finishing at 6 am Wednesday 23rd June 2021.
Hutchison Ports – Brisbane:
The terminal yard was closed from 7 am until 3 pm on Wednesday 16th June, Thursday 17th June and Friday 18th June 2021 due to the industrial actions that took place at the port. All appointments booked between 7 am to 2 pm on these three days were cancelled. And the yard will remain closed until 7 am Monday 21st June 2021, when the situation will be reviewed. The yard operation hours have been impacted negatively along with multiple work stoppages in the following weeks:
- 16 hours of work stoppage starting from 7 am and finishing at 11 pm Tuesday 22nd June 2021. As a result, the yard will be closed on this date.
- 8 hours of work stoppage starting from 7 am and finishing at 3 pm on Wednesday 23rd June, Thursday 24th June and Friday 25th June 2021.
Patrick Terminals – Sydney:
- A ban on working on subscontracted or outsourced vessels from another stevedoring company at Patrick Terminals, starting from 12:01 am Thursday 24th June 2021 until Thursday 15th July 2021.
- 1 hour of work stoppage at 5 am, 1 pm, 9 pm each day, starting from Thursday 24th June 2021 and finishing on Thursday 15th July 2021.
The delays at Patrick Terminals in Sydney have increased to approximately 4.5 days.
Patrick Terminals – Brisbane:
- A ban on working overtime and working in higher levels and/or performing upgrades, starting from 7 am Wednesday 23rd June 2021 and finishing at 11 pm Friday 25th June 2021.
- A ban on working overtime and working in higher levels and/or performing upgrades, starting from 7 am Wednesday 30th June 2021 and finishing at 11 pm Friday 2nd July 2021.
- Days on which an employee is rostered as ‘off/avail’, there will be a ban on attending work starting from 7am Wednesday 23rd June 2021 and finishing at 11 pm Friday 25th June 2021.
- Days on which an employee is rostered as ‘off/avail’, there will be a ban on attending work starting from 7am Wednesday 30th June 2021 and finishing at 11 pm Friday 2nd July 2021.
- A ban on working on subscontracted or outsourced vessels from another stevedoring company at Patrick Terminals, starting from 7 am Wednesday 23rd June 2021 and finishing at 11 pm Wednesday 7th July 2021.
Please expect major delays to vessel schedules and container operations due to the serious labour shortage at the terminals during these periods.
