Hutchison Terminal Industrial Action and Equipment Shortage in China
Attention: Shipping Manager
Industrial Action Update:
Less than a month after Maritime Union of Australia withdrew its Industrial Action at Patrick Terminals Sydney, MUA has given a notice to Hutchison Terminal Port Botany for its intent to carry out Industrial action. Based on the latest notice we have received, there will be a 24 hour work stoppage tomorrow.
- From 6 am on Friday 23rd of October 2020, there will be a work stoppage for 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the industrial action at Patrick terminals is suspended until the next hearing at Fair Work Commission on 26th of October. Patrick again made another offer to MUA last week which was rejected so it is likely that there won’t be any resolution of this dispute till the next hearing.
Operations at Patrick Terminals in Sydney and Melbourne are still significantly delayed and if the chain of Industrial action starts at Hutchison, it will likely add more pressure to an already struggling Sydney port.
Equipment Shortage in China:
We have received updates from our partner advising of severe shortage of 40’ High Cube Containers at various ports in China. Some shipping lines are now only offering space for a 40’ GP container instead of a High Cube. Please take this into consideration while planning your upcoming shipments.
We will keep you updated as we hear further.
