Canadian West Coast – Strike Re-Commences
Attention: Shipping Manager
We have received news that the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Canada rejected the tentative agreement reached on July 13, 2023, with Strike action resuming as of 16:30 PST, July 18 (local time).
The ILWU said its members had voted down the recommended terms of settlement that were tentatively agreed to by the union because they did not believe the terms would protect their jobs.
Port workers have been attempting to negotiate a new contract, the main issues being addressed are higher wages, protection for workers against automation and restricting the use of non-union labour at port-related operations.
We will keep you updated with any further information.
Best regards,
